Beyond the Elevator Pitch

Hey, how are you? I hope you are doing great. There's something I want to share with you; I recently got asked to give an “elevator pitch” class for Prairie View A&M University. The topic seems simple, but I like to refresh my thoughts and update the perspectives so I can bring the audience something real, something grounded in experience, more than theory.
So I started writing. What do I actually know about this? What have I experienced lately? What has changed? And as usual… things got deeper than expected.
I could absolutely put together a solid class on the basics of an elevator pitch. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that what truly makes a difference in real life goes far beyond that.

For me, the ability to truly interest someone in what you do goes far beyond a well-composed “elevator pitch.” Yes, a pitch can introduce the concept, but real interaction doesn’t happen from memorization. It happens in motion.
So this is what I realized..
What matters is learning how to compose your message in real time.
You have to read the room.
Identify who you’re talking to, almost instantly.
Pay attention to body language, context, energy.
Then build your message around that moment, (not around a script you prepared earlier).
And before anything else, you must get clear on one thing: What do you actually want from your receptor?
The concept of "the seed" came to mind exploring the idea that maybe the goal isn’t to explain your business right there to everyone. Maybe you’re in an elevator with five potential clients, all from different industries. You don’t need to “pitch” all of them. You might just make a light, intentional comment, something small, but enough to create recognition later when you meet again at a networking event. Right? It isn’t about delivering a perfect pitch, but about positioning yourself with precision, adapting fast, and knowing when to speak.. and when to wait.
